On November 21, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) announced the results of their 2025 academician election. Professor Li Junhua from the School of Environment (SOE) was elected to the CAE. In addition, Xi Beidou (Ph.D. 2002 Alumnus of SOE, formerly the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering), President of the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, was elected to the CAE. Professor Zhang Qiang (B.S. 2000, Ph.D. 2006 Alumnus of SOE, formerly the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering), Professor at the Department of Earth System Science, Tsinghua University, was elected to the CAS.
