Tsinghua Global Vision Lecture| Prof. Markku Kulmala: For the Only Planet We Have

Join the Ceremony for the Conferment of Tsinghua University Honorary Professorship on Markku Kulmala on January 20th! Organized by the Office of International Affairs, the School of Environment and the State Key Laboratory of Regional Environment and Sustainability, this special event features a lecture by Prof. Markku Kulmala, Director of the Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research (INAR) at the University of Helsinki.

Content Introduction

Global environmental challenges are crucial. Issues such as climate change, air pollution, biodiversity loss, and resource scarcity are linked through complex Earth system interactions. To address these, we need comprehensive open data, open science, and collaborative frameworks that connect research, innovation, and policy. Using the SMEAR station concept as an example, we demonstrate how integrated observations can be used to investigate new particle formation, carbon-climate feedbacks, emergency science, and the impacts of events like COVID-19 on air quality and climate variables.
